Tutorial: Fast Flying Geese with the Corner Cutter Tool™

A quick tutorial on making Fast Flying Geese the N0 Waste way!

Cutting Formula
Small Squares – Cut 4  Finished Length + 1″
Large Square – Cut 1 Finished Length +1.5″

Use one large square (body) and four small squares (wings). Draw a line from corner to corner on the wrong side of the small squares.

Stack the small squares with edges even and diagonal lines all going the SAME DIRECTION. Align the center line on the Corner Cutter (TM) tool with the drawn line on the small square. Align the diagonal lines on the tool with the cut edges of the square.

Place the small squares right sides together on opposite corners of the large square with the cut corners in the middle. Align the raw edges and center the drawn lines. The small squares will butt together where they meet in the middle.

Sew a scant 1/4″ on each side of the drawn line.

Cut apart between the stitching lines.

Press toward the small triangles.

Place remaining small squares right sides together on the corner of each triangle unit as shown. Align cut edges. The cut corner will line up approximately with the raw edge of the seam allowance in the “valley” between the small triangles.

Sew a scant 1/4″ on each side of the drawn line. Cut apart between the stitching lines. Press toward the small triangles.

You now have four identical Flying Geese units and are ready to trim.

I like to use the Wing Clipper(TM) by Studio 180, but you can use any ruler that has a 45° line on it. Align the ruler with the angle of the large triangle. See arrows. Trim the right and top sides. The ruler comes with excellent instructions as well.

Rotate the unit 180° and align the point of the large triangle in the crosshairs and the bottom left corner within the corner line.

You have four Flying Geese Units and NO Waste!
